The Government of the Russian Federation approved the provision on conducting exercises aimed at ensuring the stable and safe operation of the Russian segment of the Internet. The regulation will enter into force on the 1st of the next month – on the same day as the law on sustainable Runet comes into force. According to the regulation, exercises should be held at the federal and regional levels at least once a year. In the event of a threat to the stability and integrity of the Runet, an unscheduled exercise is possible.
The events will be attended by telecom operators, owners of communication networks and traffic exchange points, organizers of the dissemination of information on the Internet, the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, the Federal Security Service, etc. The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications will coordinate the exercise plan with the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Emergencies , The Federal Security Service and the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control (FSTEC).
The law on ensuring the stable operation of the Russian Internet segment in the event of threats was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 1 of this year. According to the provisions of the law, in the event of a threat to the safe and consistent operation of the Runet, Roskomnadzor will be able to centrally manage traffic.
